Southport Kennel Club is an all breed club which has hosted
premier all breed and obedience shows in the Fairfield County
area since 1932. In keeping with the increased popularity of
performance events, the Club has expanded its activities to include agility, hosting an annual two day Agility Trial in October.
The Club holds regular Canine Good Citizen
Testing to enable our members
whose dogs are certified to participate in our community
service programs.
Although hosting the dog shows are a
tremendous part of the Kennel Club’s activities,
LSKC currently has a volunteer relationship with
the Lower Fairfield County Department of Mental Retardation.
To facilitate interaction between the residents and
our members and their dogs we hold our classes in
obedience and breed handling weekly at the residence.
LSKC is also involved in the Reading
to Rover program at the local libraries. This program
provides children with low self esteem or reading problems
the opportunity to read to the dogs. The program
has proven to be a wonderful aid to these children.
We welcome new dog enthusiasts to join
us.
